The City of Los Alamitos will
officially celebrate its 50th Anniversary during the year 2010. A
committee of community volunteers has been hard at work since
September 2009 planning a calendar of events with the goal of
involving as many community members in the celebration as possible.
OCTA just launched its new and
improved West County Connectors website. With construction scheduled
to start this summer, you will be able to find important project and
construction updates with just a click of a mouse.

The
Community Emergency Response
Team (CERT) Program educates people about disaster preparedness
for hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic
disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and
rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations.
The Census Bureau will begin delivery
of questionnaires beginning February 2010. Household contacts will
begin the week of February 22 and run through August 2010. All
Census Bureau employees will have identification cards.

Beginning this Sunday, March 14, the
Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) will reduce bus
service by approximately 8% in response to state budget cuts, sales
tax drop and declining ridership. Cities may recall that the
OCTA board voted in November to eliminate 150,000 annual hours of
bus service through a combination of eliminating routes, reducing
bus frequency, restructuring routes and reducing trips.
The frequency of Route 50 (Katella Ave.) will
be reduced on weekdays and weekends. Additionally, Night Owl
Service will be eliminated on Route 50.
The plan will impact service on
weekdays and weekends and includes:
Weekday elimination of routes
62, 74, 75, 131, 147, 164 and 693
Saturday elimination of routes
24, 76, 86, 172, 193 and 693
Sunday elimination of routes
24, 51, 76, 82, 85, 172, 193 and 693
Weekday reduced frequency on
routes 24, 25, 30, 35, 37, 50, 55, 64, 66, 71, 72, 76, 82 and
145
Saturday and Sunday reduced
frequency on routes 29, 50, 55, 66 and 89
Eliminates Night Owl service
on routes 43, 50, 57 and 60 but maintains service until
approximately 1 a.m. and resuming at approximately 4 a.m.
